Husson University

Rick Roberts was named head coach of the Husson softball program in January 2024 after serving as an assistant coach since 2019.

In his first three years at the helm of the Eagles, Roberts guided the Eagles to three North Atlantic Conference Championships and three NCAA Regional appearances and reached as high as No. 19 in the national rankings in 2026. 

Roberts also oversees facility duties for the Robert & Frances O'Keefe Field and works with the Eagles pitching staff. 

While as an assistant and head coach, Roberts has coached the last seven North Atlantic Conference Pitchers of the Year selections: Jen Jones (2019, 2021), McKenna Smith (2022, 2023), Ana Lang (2024, 2026) and Sky Johnson (2025). Additionally, Jones, Smith, Lang and Johnson were all selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Region in those same seasons. Roberts also helped the Eagles win seven NAC championships, including seven-straight along with seven-straight NCAA Regional appearances, as Husson has hosted regionals in Bangor during the 2021, 2024 & 2026 seasons. 

Prior to Husson, Roberts worked as a volunteer assistant varsity softball coach at Ellsworth High School from 1998-2008 and took over head coaching duties from 2008-2015. Roberts has been coaching/playing softball for over 40 years, while spending 20 years pitching and coaching men’s fast pitch softball in Los Angeles, California. Additionally, he has worked as a member of the coaching staff at Sluggers Baseball & Softball Training Facility in Brewer, Maine and teaches pitching for several Maine schools as well as working with hitters and fielders throughout the State of Maine.
