MANCHESTER, Maine — The Husson University men's golf team claimed the team title at the Mariners Invitational on Tuesday, posting a team score of 288 to finish 15 strokes ahead of runner-up the University of Southern Maine at Augusta Country Club.
The Eagles finished the par-70, 5,943-yard layout at 8-over par, comfortably ahead of Southern Maine's 303 (+23). The University of New England placed third at 309 (+29), while Southern Maine Community College (322) and the University of Maine-Presque Isle (324) rounded out the top five in the nine-team field.
Husson dominated the individual leaderboard as well, claiming each of the top four positions and placing all five golfers inside the top 10.
Senior Juan Carlos Hernandez led the way for the Eagles, earning medalist honors with a 1-over-par 71. Hernandez finished one stroke ahead of senior teammates Jace Cook and Ty Dickson, who tied for second after matching rounds of 72 (+2).
Sophomore Chase Farnsworth gave Husson its fourth finisher inside the top four, carding a 3-over 73 to finish fourth overall. Sophomore Michael Bruce completed the Eagles' lineup with a 6-over 76, tying for seventh.
Husson returns to action on Saturday for day one of the Bowdoin Invitational at the Brunswick Golf Club.
