CASTINE, Maine – The Husson University men's swimming & diving team produced a number of top-five finishes throughout Saturday's meet at Maine Maritime Academy and capped the day with a pool-record performance in the final relay, before falling in the team scoring, 174-120.
Husson opened the meet with a win in the 400-yard medley relay, as senior Ryan Emerson, sophomore Jake Perkins and seniors Lucas Fendl and Brayden Champlin finished first.
In the 1,000-yard freestyle, Husson earned two top-four finishes as senior Alex Walsh placed third and classmate Jacob Brown finished fourth. The Eagles then picked up a win in the 200-yard freestyle, led by freshman Kobe Swett in first and freshman Bryce Upton in fifth.
Emerson followed with a victory in the 50-yard backstroke, and Husson added another top-four finish as freshman Mac Morris placed fourth. In the 50-yard breaststroke, Husson placed two inside the top five with Perkins third and Fendl fourth.
Husson continued its strong day in the fly events as senior Brady Hand placed second in the 100-yard butterfly, and Champlin took third. Walsh then won the 50-yard freestyle, with Morris placing fifth, while Swett produced on the diving board, taking second in the one-meter, six-dives with a score of 196.95.
Hand turned in another first-place performance in the 100-yard freestyle, while freshman Andrew Prince added a fifth-place finish. In the 100-yard backstroke, Husson recorded two top-three finishes with Emerson second and Swett third.
Perkins earned a runner-up finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, and Husson added more points with Upton placing fourth. In the 500-yard freestyle, Walsh placed third and Morris finished fifth.
Husson also earned a top-two finish in the 50-yard butterfly, as Champlin placed second and Fendl took third. Hand closed his individual day by winning the 200-yard IM, while Upton placed fifth to give Husson two top-five results in the event.
In the final event of the meet, Husson delivered its closing highlight in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as the team of Emerson, Walsh, Champlin and Hand won the race while breaking the pool record in 3:19.98.
The Eagles close their regular season on Saturday with a senior day quad-meet against Elms College, the University of New England and the University of Maine Club Team beginning at 12 p.m.
