BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University men's swimming & diving team earned a 143–116 win over Gordon College on Saturday afternoon at Webber Pool, highlighted by a program record swim, multiple event victories and a dominant relay finish.
Husson opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay as seniors Ryan Emerson, Brady Hand, Sam Peiser and Brayden Champlin posted a time of 1:39.46, while the Husson relay of senior Jacob Brown, freshmen Felix Markosian and Bryce Upton and sophomore Jake Perkins placed third in 1:54.09.
In the 1,000 freestyle, freshman Andrew Prince finished second for the Eagles in 12:56.66. Husson then claimed the top two spots in the 200 freestyle, led by senior Alex Walsh, who won in 1:51.16, followed by sophomore Perkins in second (2:00.70), with freshman Mac Morris adding a fourth-place finish in 2:09.33.
Husson scored twice in the 100 backstroke as freshman Kobe Swett placed second in 59.93, while Brown finished third in 1:08.42. In the 100 breaststroke, Upton placed third (1:09.21), Markosian finished fourth (1:09.49), and senior Lucas Fendl added a fifth-place result (1:10.05).
The highlight of the meet came in the 200 butterfly, where Hand broke the Husson program record with a time of 2:08.51, shattering his own mark and finishing second overall. Peiser placed third for the Eagles in 2:29.99. Hand also placed second in the 100 butterfly later in the meet, touching in 54.74, with Peiser finishing third in 56.43.
In the 50 freestyle, Husson received three scoring performances, as Emerson placed second (23.01), Champlin finished in third (23.10) and Morris added a fifth place finish (24.89).
Additional Husson victories followed as Champlin won the 100 freestyle in 50.58, while Fendl (54.56) and Prince (55.86) finished fourth and fifth respectively.
Walsh captured first place in the 200 backstroke in 2:05.36 with Emerson posting a second-place time of 2:10.13, while Markosian and Brown both scored in the 200 breaststroke, placing third and fifth with times of 2:34.68 and 2:50.78.
Upton won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:36.25 with Fendl finishing second (5:47.64) and Morris placing fifth (5:55.76).
On the diving boards, Swett secured first place on the 1-meter board with a score of 229.35, earning nine points for the Eagles.
In the 400 IM, Walsh (4:42.33) and Brown (5:24.11) added another seven points to Husson's score with second and third place finishes.
Husson closed the meet with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as Hand, Emerson, Champlin, and Walsh captured first place in 3:18.45, sealing the team victory, in addition to Swett, Prince, Perkins and Peiser also scoring with a second-place time of 3:30.57.
The Eagles head to Maine Maritime Academy for a rivalry dual-meet on Saturday, beginning at 12 p.m.
