WATERVILLE, Maine – The Husson University men's swimming & diving team put together a strong all-around performance at the Maine State Meet, breaking four program records over the two-day event.
The meet opened with an electrifying performance in the 200 Free Relay, where seniors Brady Hand, Ryan Emerson, Alex Walsh, and Brayden Champlin stormed to a new Husson school record, finishing in 1:29.46 to take 10th overall in a loaded field. Their early speed pushed Husson into the spotlight and set the tone for a historic weekend.
The men's first individual fireworks came in the 50 Fly, where Hand broke the school record with a blazing 23.43, placing 13th, followed by a strong Husson finish from senior Sam Peiser in 23.95 (19th).
The early-session backstroke group surged next in the 50 Back, where Emerson placed 9th overall with a time of 25.09, followed closely by senior Jacob Brown in 27.13 (41st).
Husson's butterfly dominance continued later in the meet with the 100 Fly, where Hand again led the charge, placing 14th in 52.74 to set another Husson school record, while Champlin followed in 55.83 (28th).
The breaststroke group delivered a breakthrough meet, led by freshman Bryce Upton. Upton placed 27th in the 100 Breast at 1:03.89 and 22nd in the 200 Breast at 2:23.79.
Emerson earned an 11th-place finish in the 100 Back after dropping his time to 54.10.
In the 200 Fly, Husson posted two major performances, with senior Lucas Fendl placing 21st in 2:08.07, and freshman Kobe Swett finishing 22nd in 2:08.44, giving the Eagles two scorers in the event.
Walsh delivered another record-shattering performance in the 200 Back, placing 12th overall in 2:00.49, setting the new Husson school record, in addition to adding a time of 4:59.84 in the 500 Free, closing out one of the strongest meets of his career, while freshman Mac Morris steadily improved his time in the event, touching at 2:16.76 (17th).
The mid-distance free swimmers contributed strong results across the board, highlighted by freshman Bennett Walker swimming a 1:59.18 in the 200 Free (51st), freshman Andrew Prince also touched at 1:59.55 (58th), and freshman Felix Markosian finishing in 2:34.98 in the 200 Breast(21st), marking a significant set of seasonal bests for the group.
The men closed the meet with a statement performance in the 400 Free Relay, as Hand, Emerson, Walsh, and Champlin combined for a new school record of 3:19.02, racing to a top-10 finish and capping a weekend filled with historic results.
The Eagles will return to the pool at home on Jan. 17 when they host Gordon College at Webber Pool at 1 p.m.
