NORWICH, Vt. – The Husson University men's swimming & diving team battled Norwich University in its first scoring meet of the year on Saturday, but fell to a strong Cadets squad 174-106.
Seniors Sam Peiser and Brayden Champlin provided a major highlight for the Eagles, going one-two in the 50 freestyle, with Peiser winning in 23.35 seconds and Champlin touching just behind in 23.47. Both also contributed to a second-place finish in the 200 free relay (1:30.72) alongside fellow seniors Brady Hand and Alex Walsh.
Hand added a win in the 50 butterfly (24.33) and a runner-up finish in the 200 fly (2:11.86). Walsh scored key points with second-place finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:53.92) and 500 freestyle (5:16.55), while senior Ryan Emerson placed second in both the 50 backstroke (25.94) and 200 backstroke (2:12.22).
In the breaststroke, sophomore Jake Perkins took third in both the 50 breast (30.43) and 200 breast (2:37.02), while senior Jacob Brown added a third-place finish in the 400 IM (5:09.38).
Freshman Bryce Upton finished fourth in the 1,000 free (11:15.44) and the 200 breast, continuing to show consistency in the long events.
On the diving board, freshman Kobe Swett turned in a score of 169.05 in the one-meter six-dives, in addition to a tally of 129.10 in the one-meter five dives.
Walsh, Emerson, Peiser, and Hand opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:44.20) to keep Husson within reach early on.
The Eagles return to the pool on Saturday when they head to Eastern Connecticut State University for a meet that begins at 11 a.m.
