BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University men's swimming and diving team put together a solid opening performance at Webber Pool on Saturday, showcasing strong efforts across the board in an intrasquad-style matchup.
The Eagles' depth was on full display, particularly in the sprint and individual medley events. Freshman Bryce Upton and senior Jacob Brown highlighted the distance and medley swims with an exciting head-to-head battle in the 400 IM, where Upton took the win in 5:19.25 and Brown followed in 5:32.67. Both also contributed in other events, with Upton posting a 32.77 in the 50 breaststroke and Brown clocking 56.08 in the 100 freestyle.
In the sprints, sophomore Jake Perkins and senior Brady Hand set the pace in the 50 freestyle, with Hand winning in 22.52 and Perkins touching fourth in a tight field at 23.87. Perkins went on to win the 100 freestyle in 53.21, while Hand also captured the 500 freestyle title in 5:30.24, leading a steady, consistent race.
Senior Lucas Fendl added a sub-minute victory in the 100 butterfly (59.70), while freshman Mac Morris turned in strong swims in both the backstroke and relay events. The Eagles' top 200 freestyle relay team — freshman Andrew Prince, senior Alex Walsh, senior Sam Peiser, and Perkins — capped the day with a win in 1:35.12.
Husson also found success on the diving board, where freshman Kobe Swett scored a 192.5 in the 1-meter, 6-dives showcasing impressive form and consistency early in the season.
The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they head to Norwich University for a 12 p.m. meet.
