Women's tennis begins spring season with victory over NVU-Johnson

HAMPDEN, Maine – The Husson University women's tennis squad began their preparation for the NCAA Tournament on Wednesday afternoon with a 9-0 victory over the Badgers of Northern Vermont-Johnson at Armstrong Tennis Center.

The doubles began the events as the number three duo of sophomores Lexi Thompson and Hannah Duley made easy work of the Badgers' number three doubles pairing in an 8-0 victory. Sophomores Sage Dubay and Olivia Chandler pulled away in the second pair of doubles, 8-3,. The first doubles match was the match of the day as junior Molly Chicoine and freshman Joey Lynn Ramsdell recorded an 8-6 thrilling victory.

The Eagles took a 3-0 lead heading into the singles and their lead continued to grow. Junior Emily Doten picked up the victory in the first set by the score of 6-4, 6-3 while Chicoine won the second singles set; 6-1, 6-4. Dubay won the third singles set, 6-0, 6-2, then Chandler won the fourth singles set by a 6-4, 6-4 margin. Duley made easy work of the fourth singles set, 6-2, 6-1. In the sixth singles set, freshman Sydney Loring picked up her first collegiate victory with a 6-0, 6-0.

The women's tennis team will return to action for a weekend set as they will scrimmage the University of Maine before hosting Thomas College on Sunday, Apr. 23rd at Armstrong Tennis Center that will start at 12:30 p.m.
