HAMPDEN, Maine - The Husson University women's tennis team opened up their season on Labor Day with a non-conference doubleheader sweep versus Southern Maine at Armstrong Tennis Center. The Eagles went inside and won both matches, 9-0.
The doubles led off the events as the Eagles shutout the Huskies with two 8-0 victories. Seniors
Hannah Malinen and Juila O'Leary were the first doubles pair with seniors
Nicci Munroe and
Molly Chicoine as the second set. Senior
Emily Doten and sophomore
Lexi Thompson rounding it out as the third doubles pairing and they won via default.
In singles, #1 Doten, sophomore #4
Hannah Duley, and senior #6
Emily Tilton swept their matches, 6-0, 6-0. #2 Munroe allowed one set in a 6-1,6-0 victory while #3 Thompson won, 6-2, 6-4, and freshman #6
Cassie Carr won by default.
In the second match; it was the same story despite all new players for the Eagles.
Sophomores
Sage Dubay and
Olivia Chandler took care of the first doubles set, 8-1, while Tilton and Duley were victorious in the second pairing, 8-2. Freshmen
Julia Barber and
Joey Lynn Ramsdell won by forfeit in the third doubles pairing.
Barber didn't concede a set in the first singles pairing while #2 Dubay allowed one with a 6-0, 6-1, victory. #3 Ramsdell won her match, 6-2, 6-1, and Chandler took both sets in the fourth paring, 6-1. Carr and Thompson each won their singles match due to forfeit.
It's on to conference play for the women's tennis team as they host Thomas College for a noon time matchup on Saturday.
