Women's tennis sweep NVU-Lyndon in tripleheader to close out regular season

HERMON, Maine - The Husson University women's tennis team completed a tripleheader sweep over Northern Vermont University of Lyndon with three straight 9-0 victories.

In the first match and the conference matchup, the Eagles (8-0) only allowed the Hornets (0-6) to win four games as the number one doubles team of seniors Hannah Malinen and Julia O'Leary picked up an 8-0 win followed by five different players in their singles matches. Malinen, junior Emily Doten, junior Molly Chicoine, senior Nicci Munroe, and freshman Julia Barber each picked up 6-0, 6-0, singles victories. With the victory, the Eagles conclude their North Atlantic Conference regular season at 2-0 while the Hornets fall to 0-2.

In the second match, the freshman team of Barber and Joey Ramsdell picked up a 8-0 victory over NVU-Lyndon in the third doubles pairing while the other two pairings combined to keep the Hornets to only allow five games lost. In singles, sophomore Lexi Thompson and Ramsdell each won their match in straight shutout sets, 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Sage Dubay took care of the number one singles, 6-1, 6-3, while sophomore Olivia Chandler won her match in the third singles, 6-1, 6-0.

In the third match, Munroe/Chicoine as well as Ramsdell/Barber each won their doubles match, 8-0, with Thompson/Doten winning, 8-1. In singles, it was much of the same as Dubay, Doten, and Duley made easy work of their singles matches. Tilton had the best match of the afternoon versus Makayla Phoneix as both ladies won a set before Tilton won the third set in a tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-0, 7-6 (10-3).

The women's tennis team will await their fate in the North Atlantic Conference championship as that will be played next weekend.
