Box Score Hampden, Maine - The Husson University women's tennis team captured their fourth straight North Atlantic Conference Championship on Saturday afternoon against Thomas 5-0. With this win the Eagles finish their fall season at 7-2, while the Terriers end theirs at 6-6.
The match started with the doubles event as the Eagles swept the three matches. Natalie Tilton and Hannah Malinen beat Kiara Goggin and Lauren Smith in the first doubles match, 8-5. Nicci Munroe and Molly Chicoine sailed through the second pairing over Magan Williams and Riley Pierce, 8-1. Marisa Brown and Lexi Thompson shutout the Terries in the third pairing with an 8-0 win over Renee Rossi and Cassidy Hamm.
Only two singles wins were needed for the Eagles to capture the title as NAC Championship-MVP Malinen made easy work of Lauren Smith in the second singles pairing with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. The title-clinching point was earned by Munroe with a 6-2, 6-4, in the fourth singles match over Pierce.
When the match reached decision, number one singles opponents Kiara Goggin of Thomas and Natalie Tilton of Husson were tied 1-1 (3-6, 6-3) and #3 Terrier Magan Williams was up 1-0 (7-6) on Emily Doten.
The Eagles will wait for the spring when they will take on the winner of the United East Conference for the right to participate in the NCAA tournament. Details will be announced in May of 2022.
