Box Score BANGOR, Maine - Opening up the 2019 season on their home court at Bangor High School, the Husson women's tennis team came up short in a 7-2 effort to UMass Boston.
Husson sophomores Ashley Matlock and Nicci Munroe dominated in double action, 8-0, to help grab the Eagles only doubles win as they defeated Valeria Tueme and Chloe Gates. Hannah Malinen and Natalie Tilton put up a tough battle falling just shy, 8-6, to Beacon teammates Katie Gauthier and Shelby Parent. The remaining doubles match concluded with another close victory for UMass Boston as Meaghan Moriarty and Evangelia Vassiliadis took down Husson veteran's Marisa Brown and Jocelyn Bell.
Malinen stole the lone win in singles for the Eagles as she took Moriarty to three sets to come back from behind, 4-6, 6-2, 10-5. Five Beacon singles players brought the heat as they picked up five more points to help secure the 7-2 victory.
Husson opens up conference play next weekend on Saturday, September 7th as they travel to SUNY Delhi for a 12:00 p.m. match.
