Husson Repeats as NAC East Women's Tennis Champions

Box Score

WOBURN, Mass. - Husson University swept opponents in both the semifinal and final rounds of the 2019 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) East Division Women's Tennis tournament to claim their second consecutive championship title. The tournament took place at the Woburn Racquet Club in Woburn, Mass., and all matches were played to decision. The Eagles advance to the spring crossover championship with the West Division winners.

The NAC has partnered with the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) in the sport of women's tennis several times since 2010. This season, NEAC institutions are competing as associate members of the NAC, with the conferences divided into East (NAC) and West (NEAC) Divisions. Each division holds a fall championship, and the two divisional champs will compete this spring to determine the NAC Conference Champion and a berth to the 2020 NCAA Women's Tennis Championship in May. Husson University will represent the NAC East in May, 2020.

#1 Husson 5 - #2 Lesley 0

Husson got out to a quick and commanding lead, winning all three doubles matches. Eagles #2 doubles pair Ashley Matlock and Nicci Munroe overpowered Lesley's Mary Pulling and Annie Dai, 8-2, in the first match to conclude.

No. 3 doubles partners Marisa Brown and Jocelyn Bell outscored Lesley's third doubles team Summer Lamprey and Morgan Anderson, 8-6, in a tight matchup. The #1 doubles pair Hannah Malinen and Natalie Tilton defeated Lynx first doubles pair Maddie Abbott and Grace Jovanovich, also by a close 8-6 margin.

With a 3-0 lead heading into singles, Husson needed only two individual wins to clinch the victory.

Husson #2 Tilton jumped out ahead without dropping a game to Lesley's Morgan Anderson (6-0, 6-0), moving the score to 4-0. Eagle's #6 player Bell clinched the win for the second time in the tournament, defeating Jocelyn Martinez 6-0, 6-1.

All four additional singles matches were tilted toward Husson at the time of decision.

Husson moves to 10-1 on the season while Lesley falls to 7-7.
