Butch Babin enters his fifth season as the head men’s swimming & diving coach in 2017-18.

The HU swimming & diving program continued on the incline in Babin’s fourth season, as the men showed solid improvements during the 2016-17 campaign.

The men’s team improved its record to 2-6, which included winning the program’s first dual meet in 46 years with a opening season 146-28 victory over the Monks of Saint Josep’s College of Maine.  The men earned a fourth-place finish at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Invitational for the second for the second-straight season with 72 points, while obliterating the program’s GNAC Invitational points’ record, which previously stood at 71 points (2014) and finished 11th in the team standings with 78 points at the 2017 New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championship meet. It marked the highest placing and the most team points scored in the HU men’s program history. In all told, the HU men’s swimming diving team recorded one All-NEISDA performance and broke six school records during the four-day championship meet.

The records continued to fall under Babin in 2016-17 as Grant Gerber improved his own records in the 100 Free (49.75), 50 Breast (28.39), 100 Breast (1:03.33), and the 200 Free (1:55.35), while Adam Colter set a new mark in the 1650 Free at 22:01.21, while Gerber, Alex Miles, Colin Vidas and Evan Vidas took down the 1971 400 Free Relay mark of 3.41.60 held by E. Crocker, George Gendron, Bob Wheeler and Mike Czesnowski.

In 2015-16, the Eagles made program history with their best team finish of fourth at 2015 GNAC Invitational, while finishing in 12th at the 2016 NEISDA Championship and picking up their first dual meet victory over Saint Joseph’s (Maine) in 41 years. Grant Gerber became the first Husson men’s swimmer to claim All-GNAC honors and just the second student-athlete all-time.

In all, both the men's and women's teams combined to set 19 school records in 2015-16.

Babin was named the fourth head men’s swimming & diving coach in program history on Januray 14, 2013 after Husson restablished men’s swimming & diving as a varsity sport after a 39 year hiatus.

Babin also serves as Director of Aquatics and the head women's swimming & diving coach at Husson and the head coach of Hurricane Swim Club, Inc., a USA Swimming age group club team since 2005.

In 18 years in club swimming, Babin has coached numerous ME LSC and Maine High School State quailifers and champions, Eastern Zone Age Group, Sectionals and YMCA National quailifers, and team and state record holders, while serving as ME LSC Zone Team head coach twice. Babin was named ME LSC Coach of the Year in 2010.

Babin graduated from Husson in 1984.

A native of Bangor, Maine, Babin attended John Bapst High School.
