Taylor Ewen enters his third season as the Husson defensive line coach and video coordinator in 2017.
Ewen continued the development of one of the best defensive fronts in the nation in 2016. Led by junior defensive tackle Luke Washburn, the Eagles led the nation in total defense (181.7 ypg), rushing defense (43.2 ypg), pass efficiency defense (84.81), third down defense (19.9 percent conversion rate) and first down defense (86), while ranking 12th in tackles for loss per game (8.9). The defense also put opposing passers on their backs 34 times this fall (3.40 per game), 14th most in the nation and most in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC). He also helped Washburn earn Husson’s fourth straight ECFC Defensive Player of the Year award, while seeing Washburn and sophomore defensive end Elvin Suazo, Jr. selected to the All-ECFC squad. Washburn was also a finalist for the Cliff Harris Award, which goes the top small college defensive player in the nation.
In 2015, the Eagles posted the program’s third seven win season. The defensive line was the center of most of the success from in 2015, helping the Eagles rank first in the conference in total defense (226.1 ypg), rushing defense (60.4 ypg), scoring defense (17.6 ppg), turnovers gained (29), first downs defense (122), 3rd down conversion pct. defense (0.223), team passing efficiency defense (93.84), 4th down conversion pct. defense (0.231) and second nationally in total defense, rushing defense, first downs defense and 3rd down conversion pct. defense. Under Ewen’s guidance three defensive lineman earned All-ECFC honors Matt Pellerin, Luke Washburn and Ian Palmer.
Ewen came to Husson from Lindenwood University where he was a graduate assistant offensive line coach in 2014. He was a student assistant at his alma mater, Anna Maria College, in 2013.
Ewen was a three-year letterwinner at guard for Anna Maria from 2010-12. He was named to the ECFC All-Academic Team in 2012.
Ewen earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Anna Maria in 2014 and a Master’s Degree in Business Adminstration from Lindenwood in 2016.
A native of Derry, N.H., Ewen attended Pinkerton Academy.
