Brandon Portwine enters his sixth season as the Husson baseball first base coach in 2018.
Since joining the coaching staff prior to the 2013 season, Portwine has helped guide the Husson baseball program to four winning seasons with a combined 123-89 (.580) record with one NAC championship, two NAC runner-up finishes, and one ECAC Tournament berth, while coaching two Conference Players of the Year, one Conference Pitcher of the Year, two Conference Rookies of the Year, one Del Merrill Husson Male Athlete of the Year, one Conference Tournament MVP, and 19 All-Conference, two Conference All-Sportsmanship Team, 13 Conference All-Tournament Team, 13 Conference All-Academic, two NEIBA Senior All-Star Game, two All-ECAC, three d3Baseball.com All-New England, three NEIBA All-New England, three ABCA/Rawlings All-New England selections and five Eagle Award Winners.
Portwine arrived at Husson after spending five seasons (2007-12) as the head varsity baseball coach at Stearns High School in Millinocket, Maine, where he compiled an overall record of 86-35. Prior to being named head coach Portwine served as an assistant coach for two years (2005-06).
He has also coached American Legion Baseball for 11 years as either the head coach of the Lincoln Lumber from 2011-13 and as a assistant coach for both the Lumber (2005-10) and Bangor Comrades (2014-15), winning two State of Maine Legion Championships in 2014 and 2015 with the Comrades.
In addition to his coaching duties, Portwine also serves as Husson’s Assistant Director for Athletic Facilities.
Portwine is currently the General Manager of Sluggers Baseball & Softball Training Facility.
Portwine was a two-year letterwinner as a catcher at the University of Maine from 1993-94, playing for John Winkin.
Portwine earned a Bachelor of Science in Anthropology in 1998 from Maine, while minoring in History and Psychology.
A Native of Millinocket, Maine, Portwine attended Stearns High School and Kents Hill School in Kents Hill, Maine.
