Women's Cross Country Races to 8th Place Finish at Maine State Championship

BRUNSWICK, Maine – After running a 6k in competition the past month, the women's cross country team displayed impressive finishes in the 5k at the Maine State Championship on Saturday afternoon. Out of all 12 teams that competed including Bates College which is national ranked, Husson walked away with 8th place.

Lindsey Joliat continued to lead the pack setting a personal record time of 20:48 for 37th place. Set the pace averaging a 6:41 mile. Morgan Clifford raced in at 22:03 to take 65th place.

Nearly crossing the finish line together were Kelly Broe and Jessica Dessert at times of 24:26 and 24:29 to capture 104th and 105th. Both runners shaved over two minutes off their times from the last 5k competition.

Three more Husson athletes trickled in every couple of runners, starting with Katherine Camire at 24:52, Shannon Staples at 25:02, and Madison Cole at 25:25. Staples kicked it up a notch this meet, docking two and a half minutes from her previous time.

Taking up the rear in pairs were Paige Rainford and Jessica Giffen with back-to-back finishes along with Kaitlin Prescott and Amanda Marcus. Rainford and Giffen crossed in with times of 26:07 and 26:23 while Prescott and Marcus returned close behind at 26:53 and 27:00. To finish up the race, Emma Murray placed a time of 34:45.

The women will enjoy two weeks to rest up and prepare for the NAC Championship being held at Maine-Farmington on Saturday, October 28.
