Saints and Monks Outscore Women's Volleyball in Non-Conference Action

STANDISH, Maine – After dropping all three sets to Emmanuel College (Mass.), the Husson women's volleyball team looked to battle Saint Joseph's (Maine) for a win on Saturday. The Eagles put up a tough fight, winning the second set, but the Monks pulled ahead to take the match, 3-1. 

Emmanuel (Mass.) 3 – Husson 0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-15)

Mary Shelow and Marissa Cataldo were unstoppable on the attack with Shelow slamming down 15 kills and two aces hitting .560 while her teammate Cataldo racked up 12 kills for the Saints. Putting up the majority of assists for Emmanuel (Mass.), Carly Church tallied 37 by the end of the match. On defense, two Saints were huge contributors between Katharine Journeay with her 15 digs and Casey Sheehan with 13 digs. 

On the other side of the net, Adrienne Beatty and Hanna Hembrow kept the ball alive for the Eagles. Beatty grabbed 11 digs while Hembrow added on nine digs, 13 assists, and a match high of 2 block solos. Offensively, Kayli Doten led the attack with a team high of seven kills. 

Saint Josephs's (Maine) 3 – Husson 1 (25-15, 22-25, 25-18, 25-21)

Doten continued to lead the Eagles into the second match of the day against the Monks as she smashed down ten kills hitting .364. Beatty more than doubled her tally of digs with a whopping 29 while Hembrow helped out with 16 digs, 28 assists, and three aces. Mary Grace Power stepped up her game finding the floor on the Monks side of the net for seven kills and Riley Mooers blocked two attacks on her own. 

Leading the match in kills was Monk Kelsey Bickford accumulating 16. Achieving double digits in the assist category, Sarah Dyer passed off 27 balls while Sophia Randall assisted 12 kills. Digging up 30 balls, Madison Provencher was all over the court to help out the Monks. From behind the end line, Olivia Kent found the floor for five service aces. 

The Eagles will kick off October hosting Colby on Tuesday, October 2nd for a 7 p.m. match.
