Women's Volleyball Drops Final Regular Season Game to Bates

LEWISTON, Maine - The Husson women's volleyball team fell to Bates 3-0 (25-5, 25-7, 25-6)  in a non-conference match-up on Tuesday night.

The Bobcats rose to 9-13 on the season while the Eagles finished their regular season at .500 (14-14) with their third straight loss.

Senior Chandler McGrath (Seal Beach, Calif.) tallied 18 kills with one error on 26 attempts for a .654 attack percentage to lead Bates. Sophomore Reilly Murphy (Marshfield, Mass.) added six kills and three blocks and first-year Samantha Schecter (Riverside, Conn.) pitched in with a season-high five kills with no errors on 11 attempts (.455).

The first and third sets of the match were marked by extraordinarily long service turns for the Bobcats. In the first set, junior setter Jacqueline Forney (Bloomington, Ind.) began her serve with Bates leading 4-2. Forney served 18 times in a row as Bates built a 20-2 lead, a run that included four aces by Forney and six kills by senior Chandler McGrath (Seal Beach, Calif.).

Junior Augy Silver (Manhattan Beach, Calif.), playing for the first time since Oct. 1, served for Bates' final six points of the second set, which ended on a Murphy kill. 

Silver then led off the third set with 18 consecutive serves for an 18-0 Bates lead, including three aces by Silver, five kills by McGrath and eight attack errors by the Eagles. Sophomore Lauren Brough (Killingworth, Conn.) finished off the win with Bates' 14th service ace of the match.

Bates attacked at a .478 percentage as a team while Husson was at -.221. 

Riley Mooers led Husson with three kills and Hanna Hembrow had five assists. Katilyn Woods paced the Eagles' back line with six digs.

Jordan Camarillo led Bates with seven digs. Forney had 19 assists with five digs while senior Hannah Tardie (Orange, Calif.) added six assists and four digs.

Husson will host UMaine-Presque Isle Saturday at 1pm in a North Atlantic Conference tournament quarterfinal.

Bates hosts Hamilton on Friday at 8pm in a match that could determine the eighth and final seed in next week's NESCAC Championship tournament.
