BANGOR, Maine — Husson University women's volleyball program defeated University of Maine at Machias by a score of 3-0 in non-conference action Tuesday night at William P. Newman Gymnasium.
In the first set the Clippers came out swinging with an early 3-0 lead, but the Eagles would see kills from Kaitlyn Woods to push their lead to 10-7 half way through the first. Maine Machias would compete to keep it close, but Husson then finished the set by a score of 25-21.
Mary Grace Power lead the way in the second set with a few kills of her own to take a 9-3 early lead. The Clippers would then try to fight back with two consecutive points, but the Eagle offense answered back with six points to make the score 15-5 halfway into the second set. Husson would then impressive offense from Nia Arranaga and Hanna Hembrow to take the second set 25-14.
In the final set both teams battled back and forth but the Eagles jumped out to an 8-3 lead. The Clippers saw solid defensive blocking from Linda Riley, cutting the lead to 16-8. Maine Machias would fight back, but drop the final set 25-11.
For the Clippers, Samantha Penn lead with four kills, while Savannah Hayden had three. For the Eagles Hanna Hembrow recorded a double double with 26 assists and 12 digs, while Mary Grace Power had 11 kills.
The Eagles are back in action when they travel to face Johnson State and Lyndon State in NAC play on October 15. The Clippers host Maine Presque Isle for a 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. start on October 12.
