Standish, ME - Husson Volleyball was bested by the Saint Joseph's Monks for the seventh consecutive time Wednesday night in straight sets. The Monks never relinquished more than 17 points in a game, sweeping the match 25-17, 25-13, and 25-16.
The Eagles were competitive in every set, but the Monks used big runs to pull out victories in each game. An 8-point St. Joseph's run in game one, an 18-1 run in game two, and a 9-4 sequence in game three were enough for the Monks to hold on for the win.
Saint Joseph's was led by freshman middle hitter Felicia Wachowiak (Milton, NH), who dominated the match with 12 kills on 22 attacks, good for a .545 hitting percentage.
Senior Sarah Hawkes (Pownal, ME) put away eight kills and picked up 10 digs for the winners, while juniors Holly Bannister (Cumberland, ME) and Brooke Dyer (Lebanon, ME) each posted five kills.
Husson was paced by senior Hannah Olstad (Farmington, NH), who had 11 kills and 11 digs in the loss.
Michelle Smith (New Boston, NH) contributed six kills, seven digs, and two aces for the Eagles, while Kelsey Burrill (Somersworth, NH) totaled 14 digs and three kills, and Aleta Johnson (Milton, NH) handed out 20 assists.
The win improves the Monks' overall record to 14-5 (4-3 GNAC), while the loss drops Husson to 11-8 (2-0 NAC).
The Eagles' next contest will be a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader on Homecoming Saturday, October 13. They will take on conference foes Colby-Sawyer at 10 AM, and U-Maine Farmington at 4 PM.
