Mount Pleasant, SC - Sarah LaPlante (Wallingford, CT) led the Husson University women's outdoor track and field team in their first meet of the 2013 season. The team competed in the Palmetto Classic hosted by the College of Charleston and the Citadel.
LaPlante took second place in the women's javelin throw with a distance of 33.11 meters. She also competed in the shot put and took 13th place with a throw of 9.84 meters. Paige McNaughton (Randolph, ME) also participated in the shot put with a 9.24 meter, 15th place throw. Diana Kruszewski (Auburn, ME) finished right behind her in 16th with a 9.19 meter throw. First year Sara Hofmann grabbed ninth place in the javelin throw, getting 29.76 meters.
Kristen Lawrence (Manchester, NH) participated in the 100m dash, running a 13.80. Teammate Megan Darcy (Center Conway, NH) also ran the 100 in 14.21 seconds. Kendra Jackson (Waterboro, ME) ran the 400m dash for Husson, finishing in 1:12.45.
In the mile run, Kateri Jeffrey (South Portland, ME) ran a 6:13.22, followed closely by Molly Frankinburger (Lebanon, CT), a junior captain for the Eagles, in 6:13.36. Dem Rideout (Norway, ME) ran a 18.24 in the 100m Hurdles for a 13th place finish. Rideout also competed in the women's long jump, earning a 20th place finish with a 4.34 meter jump.
Husson will compete again tomorrow, Saturday, March 9, in the Coastal Carolina Invitational in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
