Lowell, MA - In a meet that contained athletes representing Division I, II and III institutions, the Husson University women's track and field team continued to improve and put forth some quality efforts across the board.
Senior thrower Alex Barner (Woodstock, CT) turned in an impressive mark of 33.77m in the Javelin throw for 5th place in the meet and fourth among DIII contestants. She has already qualified for postseason meets in that event, and also nears ECAC benchmarks in the shot put, coming up with a toss of 11.6m in the finals, good for 11th place - 4th DIII. Fellow thrower Sarah LaPlante (Wallingford, CT) set new personal records in all three of the events in which she entered, finishing 9th in the javelin with a throw of 30.25m, she also came in 21st in the shot put (9.79m) and 29th in the discus (27.55m).
Sprinter Kristen Lawrence (Manchester, NH) turned in a personal best in the 100m, running 13.84 which put her in 12th among DIII athletes, and 40th overall. Suze Van Dine (Glenburn, ME) wasn't too far behind with a time of 13.86 in the event.
Other personal bests were achieved by jumpers Dem Rideout (Norway, ME), with a long jump of 4.62m and Branna Harlow (New Gloucester, ME) who triple-jumped 9.12m and high jumped 1.45m, needing only a two centimeter improvement to qualify for the New England Chamionships.
Husson Track and Field competes again on Saturday when they travel to Waterville, ME for the Colby College Invitational.
