SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Husson women's indoor track & field team sent seven student-athletes who qualified to compete at the New England Division III Championship at Springfield College on February 16th and 17th. Husson had two freshmen competing and one senior who displayed incredible skill from her first year as an Eagle, attending her fourth-straight New England DIII Championship. The Eagles faced 30 other teams at the meet.
Four Eagles helped set a season-best time in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:52.77, fast enough for 13th out of 20 teams vying for the fastest time. Junior Shea Curley was the opening leg starting off with the baton, followed by sophomores Tamara Rodriguez and Adreona Daniels, with Leah Desjardins finishing as anchor.
Desjardins was the only Eagle to qualify in three different events. The sophomore also tied for 19th in the 60-meter dash crossing the finish line 8.10 seconds just, .01 seconds shy of making a three-way tie for 17th. She followed up that race with the 200-meter dash, racing down the track in 27.43 seconds for another 19th ranking.
Senior Faith Burnett and freshman Issy Capozzi closed out the weekend in the field. Burnett achieved a 22nd rank for her weight throw of 12.45 meters. She placed even better in shot put, tossing it 10.93m, just .02m short of 17th. Capozzi posted an ever further throw with her shot put, sending it 11.15m, good enough for 12th.
The Eagles closed out a successful year for the women's indoor track & field program with a young squad ready to thrive over the next couple years together.
