CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Husson University women's indoor track and field team had a strong showing at the DIII New England Championships. The meet featured three nationally ranked teams. A player who finishes in the top 8 in their meet qualifies as an All-New England athlete. The largest group of athletes to represent Husson University had an impressive weekend against the best athletes New England has to offer.
Freshman Leah Desjardins finished 14th in the 60 meter in 8.15 seconds.
In the weight throw, Erin Ellison took 9th with 14.53 meters, while Faith Burnett was 18th with 12.70 meters.
In the shot put, Ellison finshied 12th at 11.32 meters. Burnett was 22nd at 10.43
The 4x200 meter team took 10th place, which was the highest finish for any Husson relay team and set a new school record of 1:51.08. Shea Curley, Brooke Hoople, Leah Desjardins, and Casey Modery are the four members of the 4x200 meter squad. The team had been seeded 15th.
Brooke Hoople finished the day with the 400 meter. She came in 9th at 1:00.22. It was an improvement on her pre-race seeding.
Erin Ellison will be competing in the weight throw at the Open New Englands. It is where the best track and field athletes in NCAA DI, DII, and DIII compete at one venue. It will be taking place Saturday, February 25th at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Massachusetts.
