Eagles have Record Setting Day at Southern Maine Invitational #1

GORHAM, Maine – The Husson University women's indoor track and field team kicked off the 2015-16 campaign with an appearance in the University of Southern Maine Invitational #1 on Saturday afternoon.

THE RUNDOWN:

  • Erin Ellison was second in weight throw (13.44m) and shot put (11.30m) while setting the school records and qualified in both events for 2016 New England DIII Championships meet.
  • Faith Burnett finished 6th in the weight throw (10.01m) and 5th in shot put (9.60m).
  • Felicia Olmstead placed 9th in the weight throw (6.80m), 21st in the shot put (7.17m), and 4th in the pole vault (2.45m).
  • Natalie Bunton finished 14th in the shot put (7.92m) and 24th in the 55-meter dash (9.62).
  • Kelly Kashian was 22nd in the shot put (7.08m), 3rd in the high jump (1.42m), and 10th in the long jump (4.07m).
  • Elizabeth Hilliard took a 23rd place finish in the shot put (6.03m) and a 26th place finish in the 55-meter dash (9.91).
  • Jessica Dessert was 6th in the pole vault (2.45m) and a 21st in the 55-meter dash (8.69).
  • Jaclyn MacDonald took 7th in the pole vault (2.30m) and a 22nd in the 55-meter dash (9.06).
  • Alecia Palmer finished 9th in the pole vault (2.30m) and 2nd in the 1000-meter run (3:27.37).
  • Jayda Cabrera was 9th in the long jump (4.15m), 2nd in the 55-meter dash with a school record of 7.65 and just narrowly missing the qualifying time for the 2016 New England DIII Championships.
  • Casey Modrey finished 5th in the long jump (4.52m), 2nd in the triple jump (9.60m).
  • Tamara Rodriguez took 3rd in the triple jump (8.71m), 12th in 55-meter dash (8.32).
  • Katie Cotton placed 3rd in the 55-meter hurdles (9.09), while setting the school record and qualifying for the 2016 New England DIII Championships In her first collegiate meet.
  • Brooke Hoople was 5th in the 55-meter dash (7.90) and 2nd in the 200-meter dash (28.01).
  • Shae Curley placed 17th in the 55-meter dash (8.53) and a 14th in the 200-meter dash (30.94) just missing cut time for the 2016 New England DIII Championships meet.
  • Samantha Berwick took a 25th place finish in the 55-meter dash (9.62), and a 20th place finish in the 200-meter dash (35.86).

The Eagles' 4x200 relay team finished in second place with a time of 1:57.46.

"As a whole, it was a day that provided some very good performances and gave athletes and coaching staff information about how to move forward in training," said head coach Kate Goupee. "With nearly half of the team being new to collegiate competition, it was a wonderful way to start the season."

The Eagles resume action on Saturday, January 9th at University of Southern Maine Invitational #2.
