Downing and Kashian Perform Well on Day One of Bates Invitational

LEWISTON, ME – Kerianne Downing (Dedham, MA) took third and qualified for the New England Championships in the pentathlon to lead the Husson University women's track and field team on day one of the Bates Invitational.

Downing scored 2,687 points, to set a personal and school-record and qualify for the Division III New England Championships. Downing ran 10.06 in the 60-meter hurdles, had a 1.49 meter high jump, notched a 9.38 meter shot put throw, leapt 4.67 meters in the long jump and ran 2:56.94 in the 800-meter run. 

Kelly Kashian (Caribou, ME) also competed in the pentathlon, and took ninth in her career debut in the event. She scored 1,740 points with a 12.32 60-meter hurdle time, 1.46 meter high jump, 5.35 meter shot put throw, 3.9 meter long jump and 3:06.42 800-meter time. 

The Bates Invitational finishes on Saturday.
