BANGOR, Maine - Husson women's tennis grabbed their second win of the season, 8-1, hosting Northern Vermont University-Johnson on Saturday morning.
Three pairs competed for the Eagles on Saturday, with Marisa Brown and Jocelyn Bell shutting down Iris Serrano and Kayla Hammond, 8-0. Natalie Tilton and Hannah Malinen took down Libby Chitamber and Becca Simon with a score of 8-3. In the final set of doubles, Meridith Blessard and Ashley Matlock battled Mikayla Messier and Sam Kershner to an 8-4 win.
Malinen was the only Eagle to hold the Badgers scoreless in singles action after defeating Simon, 6-0, 6-0. Julia O'Leary held Leah Gaboury to a single point with her 6-1, 6-0 victory. Tilton earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Badger's Kershner. Blessard and Messier kept the matches consistent with Blessard on top, 6-2, 6-2. NVU-Johnson's Serrano battled Nicci Munroe to the end, but Munroe took the win for Husson, 6-3, 6-4. In the final pair-up of singles, Husson's Matlock took Chitamber to three sets after dropping the first one, 1-6 and came back to win the second, 6-2. In the third and final set between the two, Chitamber overcame Matlock for the Badger's lone win of the day, 10-3.
Husson tennis returns to their home court on Sunday, September 16 to take on Northern Vermont University-Lyndon.
