Husson Defeats Castleton in Close NEAC East Play, 6-3

BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University (5-1, 4-1) women's tennis team defeated Castleton University (6-4, 3-2) by a score of 6-3 in North Eastern Atlantic Conference East play Sunday morning at Bangor High School.

No 1. doubles Meredith Blessard and Katie Pratt opened up play as they defeated Ciara Bannister and Megan Nadler of Castleton, 8-3. No. 2 doubles Charlotte Bednarz and Sarah Smith won against the team of Kristen Kruk and Kayla Zsido, 8-3 while Kelsey Pelletier and Marisa Brown closed out the doubles beating Monika Plante and Jen Blay 8-2.

For the singles, Husson and Castleton were neck and neck splitting the final six points of the match. No 1. singles Blessard defeated Bannister 6-4, 6-0. Smith had a close one with Nadler 7-6, 6-3. Bednarz would play to three sets as Kruk came away with the win for the Spartans 0-6, 6-3, 6-0. Pelletier swept Plante in straight sets 6-3, 6-0. Brown fell to Spartan Zsido 1-6, 4-6 and Samantha Dubay lost in straight sets to Emily Miller, 4-6, 3-6. 

Casteton returns to action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday against Lyndon State. The Eagles will travel to Colby Sawyer on Saturday, October 1 with an 11:00 a.m. start.
