JOHNSON, Vt. - The Johnson State College women's tennis team defeated Husson University 6-3 on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, Johnson improve to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the NEAC-East, while Husson falls to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the NEAC-East.
Johnson opened up the match with Katerina Van Woerkom and Nicole Monick taking the top flight doubles pairing against Katie Pratt and Meridith Blessard, 8-4. Sarah Smith and Charlotte Bednarz took the second doubles match 8-2 but Kali Covell and partner Grace Page close out the final doubles match, 8-0 over Marisa Brown and Kelsey Pelletier.
Van Woerkom earned win in top flight action claiming a pair of wins over Blessard, 6-3 and 6-1. In second flight singles action, Smith earned a pair of 6-1 victories for the Eagles over Page. Somero claimed a straight sets victory over Bednarz in number three singles with 6-0 and 6-1 set victories.
Johnson's Covell and Husson's Pelletier played a hard fought match in number four singles with each player winning one before Pelletier took the final pro set to earn a 2-6, 6-1, 10-7 win. Monick took fifth flight singles with a pair of 6-4 wins over Brown while Jordan Miller claimed the final singles match with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Samantha Dubay.
The Eagles travel to Lyndon State on Sunday, September 18th with a match time of 9:30 a.m.
