WATERVILLE, Maine - Going 2-0 this past week with a shutout in the North Atlantic Conference Quarterfinal match, the Husson women's soccer team was honored with two players receiving NAC weekly awards. Sami Ireland earned her first Defensive Player of the Week award and Mackenzie St. Pierre achieved her first Rookie of the Week.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sami Ireland, Husson - (So., GK - Howland, Maine)
Earning her fifth shutout of the season, Ireland faced two shots and stopped them both to secure a 3-0 victory over SUNY Canton in a NAC quarterfinal game at home. Ireland played a shutout half for the Eagles earlier in the week, leading the team to a 6-1 win against UMaine-Presque Isle and securing the No. 4 seed. The NAC quarterfinal win advances the Beavers to the semifinal round this weekend.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Mackenzie St. Pierre, Husson - (Fr., M - Waterville, Maine)
Notching a five-point week, St. Pierre helped lift the Eagles above UMaine-Presque Isle, 6-1, dishing out a pair of assists as Husson captured a conference victory to help secure the No. 4 seed. Hosting SUNY Canton for the NAC quarterfinals, St. Pierre earned her fourth goal of the season off a direct kick just outside the box, which she slipped in just under the crossbar to give Husson a 1-0 advantage in the first five minutes of the match. The rookie added her third assist of the week after sending a long ball down the field for her teammate Joan Overman to handle and score a beautiful volley off the bounce.
