BANGOR, Maine - The Husson University women's soccer team collected a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) quarterfinals victory with a 3-1 win over Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday afternoon at Boucher Field.
With this win, the Eagles improve to 8-6-1, and the Mariners finish their season at 7-11.
Husson's Taylor Fortin opened the scoring the 10th minute when Maine Maritime was called for an infraction in the box. Fortin was awarded a penalty kick and made the most of the opportunity. The Eagles led 1-0 early in the first half.
Fortin would add a second goal just four minutes later when she received a beautiful through ball from teammate Leah Hibbad. The seniors teamwork gave their squad a 2-0 lead.
The Eagles weren't done scoring in the first half. Hibbad found the back of the net in the 30th minute after Arianna Mckinnon fed her a great pass. Husson held a 3-0 lead at halftime.
After back and forth opportunities, Maine Maritime cut into Husson, 3-1, with only 14 minutes remaining in the second half. Eryn Doiron passed through the defense to Allison Boulier, who found the top right corner of the net. In the ensuing minutes, the Mariners pushed hard to tie the game, but Sami Ireland and the Eagles' defense were to strong. Husson collected the 3-1 quarterfinals win.
Maine Maritime outshot Husson, 18-15. Husson goalkeeper, Sami Ireland, collected 11 saves in the net while Emily Conway, of the Mariners, recorded five saves.
The Eagles travel to Colby-Sawyer on Tuesday, October 31, for a NAC semi-finals matchup.
