BANGOR, Maine - Husson and Castleton played to a 2-2 draw on a rainy Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action at Boucher Field.
Castleton (7-6-4, 5-1-2 NAC) got the scoring going early in the contest, netting back-to-back goals within a three-minute span. Shelby McLenithan opened the scoring in the contest in the 20th minute, tallying an unassisted goal to push the Spartans out to a 1-0 advantage. Izzy Hutnak then doubled Castleton's lead to 2-0 in the 23rd minute on an unassisted goal of her own. With time winding down in the opening half, the Husson (6-7-2, 5-1-2 NAC) cut into the Castleton lead when Taylor Fortin found the back of the net to make it 2-1 in the 44th minute.
Both sides played scoreless soccer for a majority of the second frame, but the Eagle offense applied enough pressure to crack the Castleton defense for a second time. Mollie Roy collected a goal in the 83rd minute to knot the game at 2-2 and send it to overtime for the second time in as many contests between the two sides at Boucher Field.
Neither team registered a shot in the first overtime period, sending it to a second extra frame. In the second overtime, both teams recorded one shot with no success in breaking the tie, as the 2-2 result held through the final whistle.
Jessica Binkowski made three saves for the Spartans, while Kayla Gordon recorded nine for the Eagles.
The Spartans outshot the Eagles, 18-7.
The Spartans are back in action on Sunday as they travel to Maine Maritime for another NAC contest at noon. Husson will return to action on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. when they host Green Mountain in their regular season finale. The Eagles have plans to honor the program's five seniors Hannah Clough, Sydney Costa, Lexi Crawford, Brooke LaBelle and Alissa Randolph.
