Patchogue, NY- The Husson University women's lacrosse team was defeated by St. Joseph's College, 17-1, on Saturday afternoon at Danzi Stadium.
After building an 11-0 lead in the first half, St. Joseph's College's (N.Y.) Chelsea Tarazona started the scoring in the second frame by scooping a ground ball in the SJC defensive end and running the length of the field for the goal. SJC goals from D. Johnston, Alexis Hillman, and Taylor Ferrito followed before Maddy Olsen broke up the shutout, 15-1, with just over eight minutes left on the clock. Carroll and Gregson closed out the game with back-to-back goals moving the score to its final 17-1.
Goalkeeper Mallory Burchill finished with 10 saves, while her counterpart Lindsay Ramos finished with four saves on the day.
Leading the way with an eight-point effort on four goals and four assists was junior Nicole Stopelli for SJC. Sophomore Diana Johnston pitched in with four goals and two assists and a game-high seven draw controls.
The Golden Eagles owned a 12-8 advantage in draw controls while holding a 33-6 shot advantage through sixty minutes of play. St. Joseph's College picked up 14 groundballs to Husson's seven, while the Golden Eagles forced 19 Eagle turnovers.
The Eagles return to action when they host the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday, March 13 at 4:00 pm.
