GORHAM, Maine - The Husson University women's lacrosse team fell to University of Southern Maine on Sunday afternoon by a score of 16-3 in non-conference action at Hannaford Field.
Senior Lauren Lessard paced the Huskies' (4-1) offense with six points on three goals and three assists. Sophomore Aliza Jordan scored four goals, and senior Sam Campobasso had three goals and one assists. Rookie Allison Irish added three goals.
USM sophomore goalies Hala Van Nostrand and Miriam Wood each played a half making one save apiece.
The Huskies scored the first five goals of the game, getting markers from five different players, to grab the lead. Newton got the Eagles on the board with 15:18 remaining in the half. Lessard made it six different Huskies to score goals 22 seconds later. Bataran's goal at 13:05 made the score 6-2. Over the final 10 minutes of the half, the Huskies got a goal from Irish, two from Campobasso and one from Lessard to open up a 10-2 advantage at halftime.
USM kept the offense going in the second stanza scoring the first four goals. Jordan had the first two before Irish completed her hat trick. Sophomore Colleen Fleming netted the fourth goal converting a free-position attempt. Newton snapped the run of eight consecutive goals by USM at the 13:06 mark.
Husson will host Johnson State College in a rescheduled North Atlantic Conference game on Tuesday (4:00 p.m.). Southern Maine hits the road for its next two games. The Huskies travel to Bates College on Tuesday (5:00 p.m.) and New England College on Thursday (4:30 p.m.).
