Deshaies lead Eagles past Terriers, 7-6

WATERVILLE, ME -  Amanda Deshaies scored three goals to lead the Husson University Women's lacrosse team to an 7-6 victory over Thomas College on Wednesday night in a North Atlantic Conference contest.

The Terriers (7-3, 6-2 NAC) struck first, as Samantha Greenlaw found the back of the net for the 14th time this season with an assist from Day. Just over six minutes later, the Eagles (6-5, 5-2 NAC) tied the game up at one when Amanda Deshaies scored from the free position.

Thomas responded by scoring two unanswered goals, as Brittany Premo notched her first of the game with a helper from Jennifer Day, then returned the favor for Day at 17:40 left in the half to put Thomas up 3-1.

Deshaies scored her second of the game to pull Husson back within one, but Day answered with her second to put the Terriers back up two. Continuing the back and forth affair, Deshaies scored once again from the free position to cut the lead back down to one.

With a man-down, Premo took an assist from Day and buried it past goalkeeper Jess Poulin with 4:55 remaining in the half. The Eagles added a late goal to cap off the scoring in the first half, as Abi Staab also scored a man-down to cut the Thomas lead to 5-4 at the break.

The Terriers got on the board first in the second half, with Day taking a feed from Premo to extend the Terrier lead to two. Thomas would not score again the rest of the game.

Just over six minutes later, Husson's Michaela Bicknell took the ball from her own end to the scoring zone and put home a shot past goalkeeper Allie McCarthy for her first on the night. Mattie Russell got in on the scoring action, notching the game-tying goal with 15:14 remaining.

On the ensuing draw control, Bicknell took the ball and went straight in towards the goal and got it past McCarthy to give Husson their first lead of the game with 15:01 left to play. The Eagles limited Thomas to just three shot the rest of the way and held on for the 7-6 win.

Deshaies led Husson with three goals, and Bicknell added two including the game-winner. Kaitlyn Dolloff played the second half in goal and got the win, allowing just one goal while making four saves.

Day led Thomas with three and three assists, and Premo chipped in with two goals and two assists of her own. McCarthy had a season-best save percentage of 65.0 in defeat, while also recording 13 saves.

Husson will close out the regular season on Saturday, April 18 when they host Green Mountion for a North Atlantic Conference contest. Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
