Strong First Half Carries Spartans Past Eagles

CASTLETON, VT - The Husson women's lacrosse team fell to the Spartans of Castleton by a score of 20-8. The Spartans improve to 8-2 and a perfect 4-0 in the North Atlantic conference, while the Eagles fall to 3-4 and 2-2 in NAC play.

Castleton jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game with goals from Maddy DaCosta, Kate Auer, and two from Brandi Whittemore.

The Eagles got on the scoreboard with a goal from Amanda Deshaies (Wells, ME) to pull the team to within three, but that was as close as they would get as the Spartans led 14-2 at the half. Abi Staab (Berlin, VT) scored the other first half goal for Husson.

DaCosta led the Spartans with seven goals and also recorded one assist. Auer had nine points on the afternoon with six goals and three assists. Whittemore also chipped in four goals for Castleton. Meghan Els played well in net by recording 14 saves. The Spartans outshot the Eagles 31-27.

Deshaies and Michaela Bicknell (West Addison, VT) each had three goals for the Eagles, who also received a goal from Mariah Carrier (Lewiston, ME). Goalies Abby Greenleaf (Newfield, ME) and Jess Poulin (Albion, ME) combined to make six saves.

Husson looks to get back into the win column Tuesday when they travel to Maine Maritime to take on the Mariners at 4:30.
