Bangor, ME - In a rescheduled non-conference game, Husson women's lacrosse fell to the University of Southern Maine 20-3 on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles stand at 3-5 (1-1 NAC), while the Huskies advance to 7-3 on the season.
USM jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the first half, with goals from Jacki Kelly, Nicole LaPlante, and Samantha Purcell. Alissa Fallon (Kennebunk, ME) responded with a score for Husson at 3-1, but that would be all the points for the Eagles in the first half. The Huskies went on a 8-0 run to enter halftime with a comfortable 11-1 lead.
Anh Nguyen made it 12-1 at the beginning of the second half before Fallon struck again for the Eagles. The Huskies were on a roll, though, and responded to Fallon's goal with eight more of their own. Caitlyn Stauffer (Brookfield, CT) put one more on the board for Husson with a minute left in the contest, but it was too little too late for the Eagles.
Purcell and Kelly both finished with 3 goals apiece for the Huskies. Nguyen, LaPlante, Jenna Cyr, Lauren Santo, Rosie Forster, and Shauna Robert all finished with two goals each. Kim Vogel and Caley Presby split time in goal for USM, facing five shots. Chelsea Kondratowicz (Kingston, NY) faced 25 shots and made 5 saves for Husson.
USM picked up 5 ground balls to Husson's 4 and outnumbered the Eagles in draw controls 10-5. The Huskies outshot Husson 32-10.
Husson will jump back into North Atlantic Conference play with a road trip to Maine-Farmington at 4:00 PM on Wednesday. Southern Maine will travel to Brunswick, Maine, on Wednesday at 7:00 PM to face Bowdoin College.
