New London, NH – The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team defeated Husson University, 22-12 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) East Division contest on Saturday afternoon. Husson falls to 3-8 overall and 1-3 in the conference. The Eagles will play at Castleton tomorrow at 3:00 pm. The Chargers, who will travel to Green Mountain on Wednesday for a 4:00pm contest, improve to 7-6 overall and 3-1 in NAC play.
Junior Laurel Bauer (Bradford, N.H.) led 10 Colby-Sawyer scorers with five goals. Senior Sam Rober (Bedford, Mass.) added four, while senior Brittney Murphy (Woburn, Mass.) and junior Ashley Reis (Peterborough, N.H.) had three apiece.
The Chargers controlled possession for the first 23 minutes of the game and held a 10-4 lead. The Eagles scored three unanswered goals in the next six minutes to cut the deficit to 10-7, but Laurel Bauer scored with less than a minute to go to put the home team on top 11-7 at the break.
The teams traded a pair of goals in the first 12 minutes of the second frame before Colby-Sawyer opened the game up (17-9) with four goals in a span of 2:25. Stauffer tried to get Husson back in the game with a pair of goals, but the Chargers responded by scoring five of the game's final six goals.
Sophomore Adrienne Bender (Wakefield, R.I.) worked 30 minutes in net and made two saves en route to her seventh win. Freshman Jess Buckley (Shrewsbury, Mass.) was in net for the final 30 minutes and stopped 10 Husson shots. Junior Kaleigh Morneau (Twin Mountain, N.H.) made nine saves in the loss for the Eagles.
