Bangor, ME – Husson University's women's lacrosse team fell to the New England College Pilgrims Saturday at Boucher Field. The Eagles were able to hold on tight with NEC early on, but were outplayed as the contest furthered.
Within the first three minutes of the game the Pilgrims managed to reel off five shots, all unsuccessful and the Eagles were able to keep things close. Abi Staab opened up the scoring for Husson as she took advantage of a free position opportunity, giving Husson the early 1-0 lead six and a half minutes in.
The 'Grims answered back just 13 seconds later as Chantale Lacroix notched an unassisted tally to tie the game and NEC never relinquished the lead the rest of the way out. New England College's Amanda Naimie scored the first of her six goals on the afternoon at the 21:52 mark, giving NEC a 3-1 lead.
The Eagles battled back, however, and climbed within one, 4-3 with 12:06 to go in the first but the Pilgrims would score five unanswered goals during the next 4:30 to build a commanding lead. The second half was nearly identical to the first, as NEC outscored Husson 7-3, taking the 18-7 victory.
The Eagles will play once again one week from today, April 7th at home at 1:00pm vs. Green Mountain College. NEC will take the field again at Smith College in Massachusetts this Tuesday the 2nd for a 5:00pm start.
