Eagles Halted by Streaking Scots

WENHAM, MA— The Fighting Scots improved to an unbeaten 4-0 with a resounding 18-4 win over the visiting Eagles of Husson University today at the Brigham Athletic Complex.

Jordan Alexander (Portland, ME) got the scoring going early for Gordon, converting a free position just 47 seconds into the game to give the Scots the 1-0 lead. That lead was extended to 5-0 over the course of the next 10 minutes behind unassisted tallies from Alana Woods (Meford, MA), Jocie Knaus (Kensington, CT), and Alexander and the game-winner from Stephanie Fitzgerald (Groveland, MA) on an Alexander assist. Husson was able to stop the Scots' run with their first score of the day when Caitlyn Stauffer (Brookfield, CT) netted a free position at 18:56 to make it 5-1. From there, however, the Scots went on a scoring tear, recording nine unanswered goals to close out the half carrying a 14-1 advantage.

Though the second half proved more balanced offensively with Gordon outscoring their guests by just one (4-3), the Scots' first half lead proved insurmountable in the end for the Eagles, who drop to 0-3 with the loss.

Gordon's victory was paced by Alexander with three goals and three assists, while Anna Blomberg (Simsbury, CT) netted a game-high four goals, Linehan and Fitzgerald recorded two goals, one assist apiece, Woods finished with two tallies, and Knaus, Brittany Hawkins (Hampstead, NH), Parisa Hassanzadeh (Winchester, MA), Jane Dietrich (West Hartford, CT), and Abby Illian (Hillsdale, NJ) contributed one each. Additionally, Hala Coker (East Falmouth, MA) and Becky Smith (Verona, NJ) dished one assist each on the day and Fitzgerald matched her season high with 10 draw controls from the center spot. Earning the win in the cage was Danielle Maguire (Braintree, MA), who was forced to make just one save on the day.

Stauffer led the effort for the Eagles with three goals overall, while Haley Thibeau (Gardiner, ME) netted a solo tally to round out the scoring and keeper Kaleigh Morneau (Twin Mountain, NH) turned away 13 shots in the first half.
