Matt MacKenzie enters his ninth season as an assistant coach with the Husson women’s basketball team in 2018-19. His responsibilities have included strength and conditioning, recruiting and developing practice plans for post players.
Since joining the coaching staff prior to the 2010-11 season, MacKenzie has helped guide the Husson women’s basketball program to seven winning seasons with a combined 135-83 (.619) record with four NAC Championships, three NAC Regular Season Titles and four NCAA DIII Tournament appearances, while coaching three Conference Players of the Year, one Conference Defensive Player of Year, one ECAC New England Player of the Year, two Clara Swan Husson Female Athletes of the Year, four Conference Tournament MVP’s, and 12 All-Conference, three Conference All-Sportsmanship Team, 11 Conference All-Tournament Team, 15 Conference All-Academic, two NEWBA Senior All-Star Game, two ECAC All-New England, two d3Basketball.com All-New England, two NEWBA All-New England, and eight Eagle Award Winners.
Prior to joining the Eagle coaching staff, MacKenzie was a four-year letterwinner as a member of the Husson men’s basketball team as a forward from 2007-10. He tallied 1,300 points, 465 rebounds, 51 assists, 73 steals and 38 blocks in 105 career games played. The senior captain helped guide the Eagles to the program’s first NAC Championship and berth to the NCAA DIII National Championship tournament in 2009, while being named the NAC Tournament MVP, and two NAC Regular Season Titles in 2007 and 2009 and a NAC Runner-Up finish in 2007.
The All-NAC selection ranks among the program's all-time career leaders in free throws attempted (446), field goal percentage (.572), field goals made (539), blocks, blocked shots average and points.
Off the court, MacKenzie earned National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court in 2009 and 2010.
MacKenzie earn a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Husson in 2010 and is currently pursuing his Masters Degree in Athletic Administration from the University of Arkansas.
MacKenzie teaches physical education at William S. Cohen School where he also coaches football, boys basketball and track. Additionally, he runs camps, clinics and offers private basketball training through his own business, RESULTS Basketball.
A native of Warren, Maine, MacKenzie attended Medomak Valley High School. He and his wife, Erin live in Brewer, Maine.
