Women's Basketball Falls to College of Saint Benedict in the Music City Classic, 60-42

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The College of Saint Benedict (4-6) defeated Husson University (4-5), 60-42, in non-conference action in the Music City Classic on the campus of Trevecca Nazarene University.

1st Quarter:

Saint Benedict started the scoring off before Vanessa Duarte and Kenzie Worcester rallied off five-straight points to give the Eagles a 5-2 lead before the Blazers went on a 7-2 run to close out the quarter with an 11-7 advantage.

2nd Quarter:

The Eagles started the second quarter with a three-pointer from Sydney Allen followed by a pair of free throws by Sami Ireland to give them a 12-11 lead. The Blazers responded right away with a seven-point run to take an 18-12 lead before Allen made her second three-pointer of the quarter. Both teams traded baskets for the rest of the quarter as the Blazers headed into the locker room with a 24-19 advantage.

3rd Quarter:

Ireland started the quarter off with a layup before the Blazers scored 12-straight points to extend their lead to 36-21. Braylee Wildman responded for the Eagles with a three-pointer followed by a jumper from Megan Peach to cut the Blazers' lead to ten, but Saint Benedict closed out the quarter ahead 41-26.

4th Quarter:

The Blazers jumped out to a 9-1 run before the Eagles responded with their own 11-0 run, but it wasn't quite enough for Husson to catch up as the College of Saint Benedict closed out the game with a 10-4 run for a 60-42 victory.

  • Breanna Gates with 11 points.
  • Alex Johnson with a double-double as she had ten points and ten rebounds.
  • Maddie Schmitz with eight points and seven rebounds.

The Eagles out-rebounded the Blazers, 48-37, while the Blazers stole the ball 16 times to the Eagles' five.
