BANGOR, Maine – The Husson Eagles women's basketball team cruised to a 90-31 victory over the Green Mountain Eagles at Newman Gymnasium Friday night. Husson improves to 18-3 overall and 14-1 in the North Atlantic Conference. Green Mountain saw their record fall to 0-19 overall and 0-14 in the NAC.
Husson had three players in double figures as sophomore guard Kenzie Worcester poured in 15 on 7-for-14 shooting from the field. She also grabbed a team high eight rebounds. Senior guard Chandler Guerrette and freshman guard Sarah Bragg each chipped in 13.
For Green Mountain, sophomore guard Mercedes Rideout controlled the scoring with 15 points on 5-for-15 shooting. All of her points came from behind the three-point arc, going 5-for-13 from downtown.
Guerrette got Husson rolling with a three pointer 18 seconds in to the first quarter and the defense took over from there. Husson scored 15 points on 14 turnovers. Husson held Green Mountain to six points.
The Husson defense started the second quarter strong, holding Green Mountain scoreless for the first 6:51 of the second quarter. Rideout put Green Mountain on the scoreboard with a three pointer with 3:09 remaining. Again, Husson held Green Mountain to six points.
The second half highlight came at the buzzer of the third quarter when Denae Johnson hit a deep three. Husson had no trouble the rest of the way.
Overall Husson shot 41.1% on 39-for-95 from the field. They controlled the game defensively, creating 48 turnovers. Husson held the advantage on the glass, 50-32.
Green Mountain finished the game shooting 27% on 10-for-37 from the field. They took down 32 rebounds with 26 on the defensive end.
Husson continues their home stand tomorrow afternoon, February 11 at 3 p.m as they face the Castleton Spartans.
