CASTINE, Maine -- Husson University women's basketball defeated Maine Maritime Academy 65-46, on Tuesday night, in North Atlantic Conference action inside of Smith Gymnasium.
The Eagles built an 11-point lead with 8:04 to go in the second quarter and again with 3:20 to play before the half, but the Mariners clawed their way back, outscoring the Eagles 10-2 in the final three minutes to enter the halftime down by just three points.
Alayne Felix led the Mariners in the first two quarters with 13 points, while Darla Morales led the way for the Eagles with eight first-half points.
Kristi Willey dished out assists to both Emily Melick and Mikayla Charters, bringing the Mariners within one at 7:14 in the third, but the Eagles went on to build a 12-point lead once at 3:12 and again with 39 seconds remaining in the third.
The Eagles outscored the Mariners 19-10 in the final quarter to claim the 65-46 win.
Felix led the Mariners with 18 points, a rebound, a steal, and a block and Melinda Odgen tallied nine points off the bench. Willey led the Mariners with four assists, and Charters tallied a team-high six rebounds.
Morales ended the night with a game-high 21 points, while adding four steals, three rebounds, and an assist, Sarah Bragg chipped in with 14 points for the Husson off the bench, while pulling down three rebounds, an assist, and a steal, and Kenzie Worcester led all players with nine rebounds.
The Eagles improve to 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in the NAC, while the Mariners fall to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the NAC. Husson travels to New Hampshire for a NAC doubleheader beginning with a 7:30 p.m. matchup at Colby-Sawyer on Friday and a 3:00 p.m. matchup with New England College on Saturday.
