Softball Loses Pair of Games on Day 3 of Spring Trip

WINTER HAVEN, FL - The Husson University softball fell in a pair of contests on Wednesday afternoon, falling to #8 Illinois Wesleyan 8-0 in five innings and and 7-5 to St. Scholastica.

Kayla Merrill, Casey Lopes and Haley Spiers each notched a hit against a talented Illinois Wesleyan squad. 

Deb Colpitts took the loss as she gave up three earned runs in an inning pitched against Illinois Wesleyan.

In the second game, St. Scholastica held a 7-0 lead after six innings, but Husson battled back and made it interesting by scoring five in the top of the seventh, but fell just short of tying the contest.

Erika Parker got the Eagles on the board first by reaching on an error by the third baseman which also scored Shaniah Haskell.

Kayla Merrill then singled to left field to score Haley Spiers. Colpitts came up next and nailed a single that scored Gabrielle Bryant and Nicole Andrade. Lyndsay Merrill came up next and grounded out, but advanced Kayla Merrill home to bring Husson within two before Husson notched its third and final out.

Alannah Healy pitched well but took the loss, going 4.1 innings and allowing just one earned run.

The Eagles continue their season tomorrow with games against Wheaton and Coe.
