Softball Splits Opening Day Games in Florida

Winter Haven, FL – The Husson University softball team saw their first regular season action of the 2015 season in Florida at the Rebel Spring Games. The Eagles fell to Illinois College, 1-0 in the first game of the day, but bounced back against Westminster (PA) taking the 4-0 victory.

Game 1: Illinois College 1 – Husson 0

Kayla Merrill (Bethel, ME) struck out seven batters, but was provided little run support, allowing Illinois College to steal a 1-0 win.

The fifth inning saw Illinois College score its only run on the day after Elyce Trout triple to left field and scored on a Sacifice Fly by Amanda Price.

Game 2: Husson 4 – Westminster (PA) 0

Deb Colpitts (Levant, ME) tossed a shutout to lift Husson to a 4-0 win over Westmister (PA).

Colpitts kept Westmister off the scoreboard for all seven innings she was on the rubber. She pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on two hits while ringing up four.

Lyndsay Merrill (Bethel, ME) went a perfect 2-2 at the dish today. She doubled in the first inning and singled in the third inning.

Husson never surrendered the lead after the first inning, scoring one run on an RBI double by Merrill.
