Husson Falls to Nationally Ranked Texas-Tyler in Game 1; Win Game 2 Against Neumann

Columbus, GA – Husson softball fell to the #3 team in the nation, Texas-Tyler on Saturday 3-2, and then bounced back to win when they faced Neumann 2-0.

Game 1 vs. #3 Texas-Tyler:

Raven Rodriguez scored in the top of the 1st for the Patriots, putting them up 1-0 early. The Eagles tied it up in the bottom of the 4th when Deb Colpitts (Levant, ME) doubled to bring in Aimee Mortensen (Biddeford, ME). In the bottom of the 5th Lona Sargent (Sullivan, ME) scored an unearned run on a Patriot error, putting the Eagles up 2-1.

The Patriots scored two runs in the top of the 7th, first on a Vanessa Carrizales triple when Carli Wheeler scored to tie it up, and Joey Cronin popped up batting in Carrizales for what was the game winning run.

Colpitts had the only extra base hit on the day with a double, along with the only RBI for the Eagles. Amanda Ryan (Brewer, ME) pitched 5 innings giving up 1 run, with 1 strikeout. Kayla Merrill (Bethel, ME) pitched 1.2 innings facing 7 batters, and Breanna Martin (Oxford, ME) closed out the game earning one strikeout. Kelsie Batten pitched 5 innings for the Patriots, giving up 2 runs.

Game 2 vs. Neumann:

Husson shut the door on Neumann beating them 2-0. Becca McCarty (Skowhegan, ME) got the win for the Eagles, McCarty only gave up 4 hits on the night in 7 innings pitched. The Eagles scored in the 3rd and 5th innings, scoring two runs on 5 hits.

Kayla Merrill singled to bat in Melissa Souza (East Bridgewater, MA) to put the Eagles up 1-0 in the bottom of the 3rd. In the bottom of the 5th Victoria Overlock (Belfast, ME) doubled to scored Courtney Hill (Calais, ME) to make it 2-0. Overlock had the only extra base hit on the day with her double, and Hill had 2 stolen bases, Souza stole 1.

Lauren Wilkie got the loss for the Knights.

After Saturday, the Eagles are 1-3 on the season and will play Ithaca tomorrow Sunday, March 10th at 11:00 AM and Hiram at 1:00PM.
