Eagles and Mariners Split

Bangor, ME - The Mariners from Maine Maritime snapped Husson's thirty-six game North Atlantic Conference win streak with an 11-10 extra inning victory in game one but the Eagles claimed the second game with a 3-0 win.  With the split, Husson improves to 14-14 (7-1 NAC) and Maine Maritime improves 15-6 (9-3 NAC).

The Mariners reached the scoreboard in the first inning off an RBI single by Mallery Stanley to left field.  The Eagles responded in the bottom of the second inning when Bri Webster flied out to center field for an RBI that plated Sara Risser.  The Mariners tacked on additional runs in the third and fifth innings to push their lead to 4-2. 

In the top of the seventh inning, the Mariners exploded for five runs on five hits to gain an 8-2 lead.  Husson responded in the bottom of the seventh inning with a two-out base clearing triple for Dottie Cameron to knot the score at 8-8 and send the game into extra innings. 

Maine Maritime started the eighth inning with Andi Flannery on second.  After Flannery advanced to third on an error, Leah Jackson singled down the left field line to plate Flannery.  A two RBI double to left field by Sabrina Keach put the Mariners up 11-8.  In the bottom of the eighth inning, Husson's Amanda Gifford hit a leadoff double to center field that scored Courtney Hill.  The late game heroics were not enough for the Eagles and the Mariners held on for an 11-10 win.

Kody Lyon shouldered the loss while Casey McCloskey earned the win, throwing 1.2 innings and giving up 3 runs. 

In game two, the Eagles scored in the second inning when Lona Sargent advanced on a wild pitch.  The Eagles tacked on two additional runs in the bottom of the fourth inning off a slap single by Hill that scored Bri Webster and an RBI single to left field by Gifford.   The game would end with a 3-0 Husson win after five innings of regulation softball due to darkness. 

Husson's Kelly Naegelin was credited with the win, throwing five innings and giving up three hits while striking out four.  Casey McCloskey received the loss for her four innings of work that yielded eight hits and three runs.

Husson returns to action on Friday, April 22 when they host Thomas College for a double-header starting at 3:30.  Maine Maritime hosts Maine Farmington in a 4:00 PM contest on April 22.
