Husson University softball fell to the University of Maine 10-2. Husson jumped out to an early first inning lead which started with a bunt single by Courtney Hill. Hill would advance to second on a sac-bunt by Brianna Webster and score on a single through the left side by Kelly Naegelin.
Maine would take the lead with a three run bottom of the second. Jenny MacDowell started the rally with a leadoff single to left and advanced to second on a sac-bunt by Cassie Hodgson . Dagmar Ralphs would then plate Maine first run with a sharp RBI double to left center. Eberhardt singled to center field, scoring Ralphs and advancing herself to second on a bobble by the Eagle's center fielder. Kali Burnham dug in next and ripped a double into left field, scoring Eberhardt and giving Maine a 3-1 edge.
However, the Black Bears would bounce right back, plating three more runs in the home half of the fifth. McLain led off the inning with a home run to right center, her third of the year. Allen would keep the rally going with a single before Jean Stevens sent a single of her own into right center. Ralphs then moved both runners up a base with a sac-fly to right before Margaret Hilton scored Allen on a single to second base. Eberhardt would follow with another single into right, scoring Hilton and giving Maine a 7-2 lead.
Maine would put the game away in the bottom of the sixth. Terren Hall started the inning with a walk and moved up to second after McLain singled through the left side. Allen would then walk-off with a three run blast over the left center field fence, her second home run of the season, to put the run-rule into play and giving Maine a 10-2 victory.
Kylie Sparks started for Maine and picked up her fourth win of the season after she pitched the first three innings for Maine giving up three hits and one run while striking out two. Ashley Kelly relieved Sparks in the fourth and pitched two innings of her own, giving up two hits and one run while fanning four. Beth Spoehr pitched the final inning for Maine, throwing no-hit ball while striking out two.
Naegelin picked up the loss for the Eagles as she falls to 1-4 on the season after pitching 1.2 innings and giving up six hits and three runs, two earned, with one strikeout.
